Dune (2020) – Official Trailer

Dune 2020

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune has its first trailer, and it’s as gorgeous as we’d hoped it would be.

It’s here, it’s finally here! The first official trailer for Dune. Based on the best-selling 1965 Science-Fiction novel by Frank Herbert, Denis Villeneuve best known for Bladerunner 2049, Arrival, and Prisoners, takes us back to the vast dunes of Arrakis in his reimagining of Herbert’s novel.

Starring Timothee Chamalet in the lead role of Paul Atreides, alongside a star-studded and talented cast that includes Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Jason Mamoa, and Dave Bautista to mention a few.

Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides the son of a noble family, who must lead a tribe to the dangerous desert planet of Arrakis to procure a special life-extending and mental-enhancing drug named melange or “spice”. Unfortunately for Paul, the harsh wasteland of Arrakis won’t be the only thing standing in his way.

Herbert’s novel is a complex and intricate tale that explores politics, religion, technology and ecology, making it a difficult and ambitious tale to adapt to the screen. Villeneuve isn’t the first to adapt the novel, with David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation garnering a cult-following, whilst Sci-Fi Channel’s mini-series Frank Herbert’s Dune (2000) brought the story to the small screen.

There are few directors that could successfully bring this story to a 2020 audience, but after his work on the critically-acclaimed Bladerunner 2049, there is little doubt in our minds that Villeneuve will produce something of visual and technical brilliance.

Dune will release on December 18th 2020 in UK and US cinemas.
