Kasabian, The Pixies & The 1975 Join Glastonbury Bill

Leicester-born rockers Kasabian have been confirmed to headline Sunday night at Glastonbury 2014 on the legendary Pyramid Stage.

In what was widely predicted in the media, Kasabian will join Arcade Fire who headline on the Friday, with Saturday’s headliner still to be announced by Eavis.

The  four-piece will join an elite cluster of artists to have topped the bill, including The Smiths, REM and Arctic Monkeys.

The Leicester-born rockers have certainly been knocking on the door of headliners for a while, with three UK number one albums and Brit Award to their name.

Lead guitarist Sergio Pizzorno told NME:

We knew we were in the running which was amazing. Being in the running is fine but you don’t want to be in the race, you want to win it. You want to be on the podium.”

On using fresh headliners, festival organiser Emily Eavis, said:

We always take great pride in putting a great British band on to headline the Pyramid and this time it’s Kasabian, who are one of the most requested bands from Glastonbury-goers and an amazing live act. It’s going to be one hell of a show!

In all, 87 names have been added to the bill of the festival, which takes place from 27 to 29 June at Worthy Farm. Interestingly, The Pixies return to Glastonbury after a 25 year absence to deliver brand new material from their new album Indie Cindy. I was one month old back then! Further acts announced  include Jack White, Elbow, MIA, Robert Plant, Skrillex, Pixies and The 1975.
