Album Review: Stylusboy- Hospitality for Hope

Solidifying their Folk blend with a Pop cement, Coventry-based duo, Stylusboy, are bringing their highly anticipated album ‘Hospitality for Hope’ to the public ear on November 18th…

Opening on a catchy Pop note, ‘Lantern’ acts as a wonderful introduction. The wonderful, free-flowing track keeps a raw acoustic sound at its core, but certainly flourishes with the crystal production quality. Accompanied by a smooth performance-style music video, this is certainly a top notch product of their musical ability in my eyes.

Think mellow, think folk, and now take a minute to imagine all that garnished with wonderful harmonies and well-written lyrics… Yes, you got it- Stylusboy in one! ‘Staring at the Sky‘ captures the click Steve and Rachel’s vocals have when they lock into a melody. An upbeat abundance of guitar strums in a slick melody, done with precision.

Chasing The Light’ carries an aspect of Stylusboy to the front, which we also see earlier in the album, in the form of ‘Love’s Tale’. Taking the melodies down to a mellow spoke on the dial, the form transitions from a flowing, melodic heap to more of a lullaby of gentle acoustics. ‘Chasing The Light’ is one damn impressive track for a début album.

Title track, ‘Hospitality for Hope’ steps up to take ownership of the album just as the name allows. Hailing from a similar vibe to ‘Lantern’, this track is littered with an upbeat attitude and a melodic feel as it breaks into a humming bridge, making way for the guitar to shine above anything else.

Departing the catchy technique for good on this particular album, final track ‘Hold My Hand’ slips back into the mellow slot of Sylusboy’s territory. Holding a harmony-focused tune in perfect pitch for the closing three minutes of the album, it really is the icing on the cake. ‘Hospitality for Hope’ has extreme versatility throughout the ten tracks, and for a début album, what an official entrance from these Coventry foot-stompers.
