Album Review: Passenger – Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea

As far as Passenger albums go, ‘Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea’ takes on a whole new level of maturity, and a whole new layer of sounds, which may divide critics and fans alike….

He’s safe with us! – we just happen to think the addition of a full band sound sits quite well and sets this album apart from previous releases. It’s evident by the individual tracks on this album that Mike sings of life experiences, travels, the good times and the bad and everything in between, and for that, you need moments of upbeat melodies, patterns of quieter verses, and a time and a place for a heartfelt acoustic affair. Without the fullness of tracks like ‘If You Go‘, you just couldn’t appreciate the intimacy of the title track. Variety, folks – all about it!

Standout tracks on the album for us would be ‘The Long Road’, ‘Beautiful Birds‘ and ‘Home’, with the uplifting outro screaming “when I start feeling sick of it all, it helps to remember I’m a brick in a wall that runs down from the hillside to the sea…

If there’s one thing Passenger does time and time again it’s that he makes us look up from the screens every now and then and experience the world for what it is. And that’s exactly what ‘Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea’ stands for. We approve!
