Album Review: Klaxons – Love Frequency

Good on Klaxons for coming back. Seven years after their Mercury Prize winning debut album, the three piece have returned with a killer third album.

That’s right: third. It’s best that you skip over their largely less successful second album ‘Surfing The Void’ which put the band in quite an uncertain place in 2010.

Yet this is why ‘Love Frequency’ sounds so triumphant. For everyone that fell in love with ‘Myths of the Near Future’, the band’s latest outing will sound downright triumphant. Working with producers such as Gorgon City and The Chemical Brother’s Tom Rowlands, Klaxons’ ‘Love Frequency’ manages to simultaneously reference vintage sounds while maintaining undoubtedly current.

Filled largely with a summery, chilled vibe as shown by lead single ‘There Is No Other Time’ as well as ‘Invisible Forces’. But don’t be so daft as to dismiss this album as background music; hard-hitters such as ‘Show Me A Miracle’ and ‘Rhythm of Life’ make it clear that this band are a force to be reckoned with.

More than anything however, it proves that Klaxons care about the dance floor. ‘Love Frequency’ is imbued with dance influences left, right and centre and seeing them live by the end of the year will seem like a necessity once you hear these tracks.

Many will pass over this record as it is a comeback, but don’t miss out. Klaxons have made a ferociously fresh and funky record that deserves a listen and more importantly, a dance.
