With the annual Reading and Leeds festival only just over a week away, it’s time to get excited!
Those lucky enough to attend (weekend tickets to both have sold out now but there are still some day tickets available to Leeds across the whole weekend) and see it all in the flesh are most certainly in for a treat this year, but this year there are certainly some acts that call for red buttons at the ready this August bank holiday weekend.
1. Eminem
Love him or loathe him, Eminem’s headline set at Reading and Leeds this year is his only UK festival appearance, and marks his second headlining set at the festivals since his first eleven years ago. With seven UK number one singles under his belt, his set is sure to be hits aplenty with people singing at the top of their lungs.
2. Drenge
With the fraternal duo’s debut album out next week, Drenge’s set is sure to make a splash, (in case you missed it an MP resigned and name-checked them) and it will be a great opportunity to hear songs off the record live which is already starting to get very good early reception. The two have already finely honed their insanely tight live performances having toured up and down the country with fellow Deap Vally (also scheduled to play at the festivals) supporting The Cribs and playing countless of their own hot, sweaty, headline shows.
3. Foals
2013 has seen the release of Foals’ third full-length album, Holy Fire, which was received warmly to say the least. The Oxford quintet played a sold out UK tour earlier this year and have been playing storming sets at festivals around the globe since. Their live shows are most certainly not to be missed.
4. Fall Out Boy
Reading and Leeds is the only UK Festival performance in 2013. Surely that’s enough to entice you to see the cult-classic pop-rockers? The four piece have only just recently re-united, and fans were certainly glad to hear it; their latest record, Save Rock and Roll went straight to the top of the Billboard 200.
5. Frank Turner
Frank Turner has the distinction of being the highest billed UK artist on the first day of Reading Festival, and his set will most probably encapsulate the whole spirit of the festival in one performance. His set marks his seventh consecutive appearance at the festivals with a performance at the Olympics Opening Ceremony and his fifth studio album now under his belt. Needless to say, his live show is now faultless and downright unmissable.
