Kent singer-songwriter Carl Street has released his latest single ‘Bunking The Midnight Train’. The track is the first to be taken from the forthcoming debut album of the same name out on 31st January.
A personal, bittersweet song exploring themes of relationships, mental health issues and overcoming the challenges life throws at us. While it’s clear Carl is walking the listener through his own personal journey, the subjects he embraces are life experiences we can all identify; life, love, loss and the coping mechanisms we employ when dark clouds gather.
While the lyrical content deals with weighty themes, the music has an upbeat sensibility to it. Combining traditional country and americana with classic rock and blues guitar, ‘Bunking The Midnight Train’ successfully experiments with genre while leaving space for Carl’s gritty vocals to flourish. ‘Bunking The Midnight Train’ plays out like an ode to artists like Johnny Cash, offering a campfire storytelling style, wistful lyrics and a rollicking soundtrack.
Inspired to write and record an album worth of songs by his partner Mandy, Carl has produced a record that ranges from rock and pop to folk and funk, highlighting Carl’s ability to playfully defy genre. The album will be his first solo record release and will be followed by new work later in the year and, ultimately, another album release before the end of 2020.
‘Bunking The Midnight Train’ is out now.
