Review: Fallingham Fair – Songbook

Songbook is the second album from folk trio Fallingham Fair. Fallingham Fair have beautiful and unique 3 part vocal harmonies from band members Fred Claridge, Aoife McCauley and Tim Gilvin.

We are immediately treated to these harmonies in opening song “Dancer”. The song from the very start shows why Fallingham Fair are very different to what is currently out there. The harmonies are used beautifully in every song throughout the album. The second track from the album “Take The Road” also treats us to the individual talents of each vocalist coupled with catchy lyrics the song will surely be a hit.

Tracks 4 and 5 from the album are by far my personal favourite. Track 4 “Red Light” has a nice slow guitar riff playing along with soft a piano which accompanies all 3 vocalists beautifully. The stand out track from the album is “Bring It Back Home” the vocals from Aoife McCauley are astounding, whenever I hear them I can’t help but think Zooey Deschanel from Yes Man. Her vocals on the track really make the song stand out from the rest on the album. Which is not something that should be taken lightly. The whole album is full on catchy hooks, beautiful lyrics and is really upbeat,  track 7 “Blinds Down” is a great example of this.

The great thing about this album is that is suits both spectrum’s of the English weather scale. When it is blistering heat and blue skies you can sit in your garden, a beer garden or a field sipping on your favourite beverage just enjoying life or it could be grey and miserable outside and listening to the songs can bring your mood up and keep you going until the sun re-emerges.
