Daddy Squad returns and has brought disco maximalism to the airwaves with new single We’re So Lovely, featuring Italian disco duo Hard Ton.

The new release taps into the dance-pop sound of previous singles My Magic Number (featuring Dita Von Teese) and Day Break and can be firmly labelled a floor-filling earworm right from the off. We’re So Lovely opens with a throbbing beat that’s punctuated by unrelenting synths. The heady disco beat is infiltrated by groovy keys and a trumpet blast before the beat is brought back and the party really begins. Hard Ton’s vocal brings a sense of euphoria and joy to proceedings: shed all your inhibitions and come join us on the dancefloor. The anthemic chorus of “We’re So Lovely hammers home the celebration of diversity and inclusivity that runs through the track. The slick production and addictive beat with an 80s punch sets the track well on the way to becoming an anthem that celebrates queer energy and the accompanying video further punctuates the feelings of joviality and euphoria.

The throwback 80s nostalgia is strong with the accompanying video, which features a diverse cast of dancers who burst with groove and queer energy, dancing against a series of retro neon backgrounds and features Andrew Armstrong aka Daddy Squad wielding a keytar. It’s the celebratory track that we’ve been asking for and I think we’re all ready to join the party.

When speaking of We’re So Lovely, Daddy Squad said: “I came up with some initial ideas, and we had the We’re So Lovely refrain, and Hard Ton took it and ran with it. They totally understood the idea of it being a song of celebration. The lyrics tell people not to feel sorry, don’t bring flowers, just join us in the party. It’s not hedonistic, it’s just a celebration.” When it came to selecting a collaborator for the track Hard Ton were a non-brainer with their “larger than life” disco anthems and ever-growing following within the queer scene. They’ve played shows all across the globe and have collaborated with artists such as ABSOLUTE and Demitri from Paris.
