Indie electro artist Marek Kubala has forged a burgeoning reputation in the industry through his blend of lo-fi indie and electro beats. The solo musician is aiming to maintain this trajectory as he releases ‘Before The Calm’, the first single from forthcoming EP, ‘Peeping Tom’.
Marek’s diverse approach to creating music has attracted attention from tastemakers such as BBC 6 Music’s Guy Garvey, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, Americana UK, GigSoup. Single ‘Fault Lines’ saw the BBC sit up and take notice, the track featuring on hit show Cheaters and, ultimately, on a compilation alongside Metronomy and Jungle.
Latest single ‘Before The Calm’, once again finds Marek experimenting with his sound as, according to the press release, he takes inspiration from contemporary artists like NZCA Lines as well as classic 80’s pioneers such as Talk Talk and Depeche Mode. These sounds permeate throughout the record which will be released in October. However, ‘Before The Calm’ is a shimmering synth pop single, slowly building into an indie dance floor filler, the likes of which alt-J and The xx would be proud. On ‘Before The Calm’ Marek’s layered emotive vocal takes centre stage, as he enters into a call and response and weaves this in and out of the music.
The ‘Peeping Tom’ EP will feature Leo Abrahams, who is known for collaborating with Brian Eno and producing Ghostpoet, as well as Polish dark wave producer Trauma Phase. Marek will drop the title track as the lead single upon release of the EP on 11th October.
‘Before The Calm’ is out now via Shore Dive Records.
