Launchbox: Luna Shadows

If you could capture the romantic aura of a California sunset in sound, soak it in tropical waters and let it dream of gothic tales among the mists of the morning, it would awaken as Luna Shadows.

For fans of: CHVRCHES, Say Lou Lou, The Japanese House, The Naked & Famous.

To many, the intoxicating music of singer/songwriter/producer Luna Shadows is the summer soundtrack that they didn’t know they needed, but those of us who have been within earshot of her oceanic tones for some time now, she is a storm brewing to impact on a grand scale.

Although her name heavily alludes to the night, debut cut ‘Cry Wolf’ (her melancholic story about telltale hearts) bathes blissfully in the sunlight. As a writer, she has an undeniable talent for an infectious melody above the tropical influences that float softly throughout the track.

Meanwhile, ‘Hallelujah California’ tips a musical cap to Lana Del Rey as it carries flickers of sun-soaked hip hop and, while remaining lyrically reminiscent of Jeff Buckley. The L.A. love letter was composed from the contrasting idea of facing the heaviest sadness in the brightest paradise

‘Cherry’ is a stunning and stratospheric sonic canvas painted with red, gold and purple dreamscapes. There is a comforting warmth and a beauteous grandeur akin to that of Say Lou Lou’s minimalist approach to creating masterpieces of cinematic proportions in this stirring ode to love and patience.

Lastly, brand new single ‘Waves’ is awash in dreamlike euphoria. As each single has demonstrated a different side to Luna’s artistry, ‘Waves’ proves to us that she can command, not only our attention with melodic and lyrical prowess, but the human addiction for rhythm as well.

Destined for great things, Luna Shadows’ angelic voice is one to familiarise yourself with.
