Bringing the spirit of psychedelic rock n roll out of the 60s-70s and plonking it firmly in the modern world. In the same way Austin Powers is met with a retro chic buzz that is undeniably cool, The Kumari’s are the musical equivalent. They are super cool and do the important job of introducing younger ears to a classic genre in a non-dusty way. With the Steve Lamacq stamp of approval we’re looking forward to seeing these guys in action!
Forming in 2012, these four friends have their roots in legends such as The Doors and The Stooges, but don’t just regurgitate their influences sound; they offer a splattering of surf, garage and pure rock n roll to their sets too. “Her Heart Of Stone” was my first track and I was an instant fan. In the same way The Guess Who’s “American Woman” had that special something that made it a cultural reference track, it told me to take notice of what else was on offer from this London quartet. “Bee” is the perfect West Coast driving song and there’s plenty for psych fans too; a top pick is “Fall In Love With The Sun”.
All I can say to fans coming down to join us for House Of Savages is that you need to prepare for a dance or ‘boogie’ if you’re so inclined. After discovering this band through friends I can certainly appreciate the power of a recommendation and the great company of friends who know their tunes.
See you all Thursday 13th August (floral shirts are optional).
