Aelius are an Electronic/Post-Rock four piece from London.
Releasing their debut, self-titled EP today, their sound contains an electronic blend of crisp electric guitar and modern rock sketches. A real upbeat, fresh sound which graces all things good about the music scene at the moment.
We spoke to the band ahead of their highly anticipated EP release to get a little more insight into what can be expected…
Fortitude: You guys have an EP out on Monday. What can people expect from that EP?
Aelius: We see this EP as an introduction to Aelius and our sound. As a band of 4 guys all with different musical backgrounds and tastes, we take influences and inspiration from right across the board, which has ended up giving us a few different variants to our sound. The EP gives you a taste of each of these; ‘Echoes…’ is the lead single and shows off our more Post-Rock side, whereas ‘No Way Out’ is purely electronic and focusses more on our EDM influences. In the middle of those we have ‘Walls’ which incorporates a bit of both, next to ‘Disappear With The Night’, which was a late addition to the EP and takes more of a instrumental, soundscape approach. The EP really just gives you a bite of our sound and a taste of the forthcoming album.
Fortitude: What one track would you say you enjoyed working on the most or stands out to you guys?
Aelius: Each track came together differently, but ‘Echoes…’ stands out for us. While we were writing it we never actually thought it could be a single, and really aimed for it as more of an album track. It was only really when we finished it that we sat back and listened to it properly and thought “Actually, this is alright”. We then managed to get some early radio play from Eddy Temple Morris on XFM, and it snowballed from there, and now here we are with the EP. What’s nice about all of our tracks is they are totally organic – nothing is forced or “made for radio”. We just make music that we enjoy making, and I think that shows.
Fortitude: In terms of the music video which is out very soon, were you guys heavily involved in the ideas for the video and in how it came together?
To coincide with the release of the EP, the band have unveiled a live video of ‘walls’, check it out:
