Get ready to be swept into serenity with Scottish neo-soul newcomer Nikhita and her undeniably impressive debut EP ‘Solace’, out now.
Layered with effortlessly soulful soundscapes throughout, this EP is an instant winner for fans of the likes of Cleo Sol or Solange. Nikhita’s soft, sultry vocal soars beautifully over the mesmerising musicality, creating a sound that feels both intimate and radiant at the same time.
Stand out single ‘Lake Karachay’ is an otherworldly delight from the offset but honestly, there is not one single dud in this EP, which is no mean feat. We must also take a moment to mention the live version of Nikhita’s debut single ‘Golden Child’, which showcases Nikhita’s authentic tone and vulnerability perfectly.
Talking about the EP, Nikhita says “writing these songs was a place of solace for me, helping me navigate some challenging situations – and solace is what I hope others will find upon listening. I have always thought of music as being an avenue for healing, and recently I’ve been learning more about how intensify that effect sonically, in traditional ways, linked to my heritage. I play singing bowls on a few tracks – these instruments originate from the Himalayas and produce a set of overtones, creating vibrations which can aid in our meditative process and regulation of the nervous system. I am only just beginning my sound healing journey, and there is so much more I am eager to learn about using frequencies for healing”.
Currently based in Edinburgh, Nikhita is already well established within the Scottish live circuit. She has supported the likes of Connie Constance and Eva Lazarus, as well as previously performing at PITCH Scotland, Solas Festival, Kelburn Garden Party, FOCUS Wales and Sofar Sounds Edinburgh to name a few. Nikhita has already received praise from the likes of The Line of Best Fit, The Skinny, The Scotsman and Tenement TV, as well as BBC Asian Network – earning her an Artist of The Week feature and a live radio performance at Maida Vale Studios for International Women’s Day – alongside plays on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Introducing.
Catch Nikhita live next on 26th April 2025 at the Poetry and live music night at Gallery Natami in Edinburgh.
