Eclectic outfit Queen Colobus return to the UK’s vibrant jazz-pop landscape with ‘Flare’, the second single from their forthcoming EP ‘Dandelion’ (out 27th November 2025). ‘Flare’ is another striking example of the band’s ability to fuse UK jazz influences with emotive indie guitar work and Beth Hopkins’ raw, deeply expressive vocals.
Led by Welsh saxophonist and vocalist Hopkins, Queen Colobus craft soundscapes that feel both soothing and cathartic, tender one moment, head-banging the next. Their trademark blend of honesty, polished production and genre-bending experimentation is on full display here. Hopkins explains that Flare emerged from a jam a few years ago, with lyrics “pouring out as a feeling of being overwhelmed, like drowning in a sea that hasn’t noticed.” The track’s ABA structure mirrors this emotional arc, with a central section that captures that extreme, chaotic swell before easing back into clarity.
The quartet – Hopkins alongside Morgan Rickman (guitar), Will Heaton (bass), and Adam Skinner (drums) – continue to build momentum across the UK scene. Their work has already been spotlighted on Spotify’s Jazz UK, Fresh Finds Jazz, and Fresh Finds UK & IE playlists, and championed on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, Jazz FM, and Soho Radio.
Fans can catch Queen Colobus live on Thursday 20th November at JazzLive at the Crypt as part of EFG London Jazz Festival.
