Amal Fashanu is a woman who has had a diverse career. From setting up the Justin Fashanu Foundation to creating her own fashion line. Now the multi-talented artist has delved into her first love of music with the release of debut single, Detty December.

Detty December is the first single to be released as part of Amal’s debut EP, New Beginnings. Inspired by the likes of Alicia Keys and Sade, Amal mixes these classic R&B sounds with flavours of her Nigerian heritage. Incorporating elements of Afrobeats, Amal has created a sound that has one foot in the past and one very much in the present. Flamenco style guitar sounds are accented by summery beats and are brought together by Amal’s rich vocals. Detty December is a worthy opening from an artist how you should keep an eye out for in the future.

The video works stylistically with the track, drenched in the sun kissed surroundings of Acra in Ghana, illustrating the lyricism of the song and depicting a broken hearted girl reclaiming her power.

New Beginnings is due to drop in September this year with Amal looking to release a single every month in the lead up to the official unveiling.

Detty December is out now.
