Diving In is an EP that delivers a laid back indie-pop sound mixed with a pop influence that suits the melodic and haunting voice of Holly Drummond down to a tee.
Hailing from Scotland, Holly Drummond has a lot of experience behind her despite her young years (Age 20). Starting her music ventures at 15 Holly has already released three EPs.
The EP kicks of with the title track ‘Diving In‘, which provides us with a chilled indie vibe reminiscent of a more up tempo Daughter track. The off-step beat and melodic vocals bring this song to life and provide us with a taste of what to expect from the rest of the EP. Holly wonders about how things may have been if she had made different decisions in life singing “What if we waited?” with the lyrics really showing off her song-writing abilities.
‘Fade’ is a brilliant love song, driven by its constant heart-like beat that follows on from the indie influences of the EP’s title track. ‘Empty‘ is the weakest song on the EP lacking any sense of urgency and feeling separate from the rest of the EP. ‘Let You Go’ picks back up where ‘Fade‘ left off showcasing a haunting nursery rhyme feel emphasising the thoughts that are haunting Holly’s mind as she sings “Do I wanna stay? Do I wanna go? Do I wanna push you out of my life?”. The EP is closed out with ‘Save You’, a quirky song that works perfectly with the melodic flow of Holly’s vocals, and a remix of title track ‘Diving In’.
Holly Drummond’s latest release showcases a more indie-driven sound towards Holly’s past catalogue of work. This new sound fits like a glove with the haunting sound of the songstress’ voice and proves that Holly Drummond is a name that you should get to know.
‘Diving In’ EP is set to be released on Monday 20th October 2014.
