We first featured George Barnett a few months back when he released his pop-infused banger ‘Parasite’ and we were all over it like, well… a parasite (sorry, not sorry). Anyway, we’re extremely pleased to say that since then, he’s gone on to release a whole new EP and its the perfect collection of vibrant vignettes to get you through lockdown 2.0.
Kicking things off with the rather brooding title track ‘Make It Rain’, the track is pretty far removed from the dark-pop sensibilities of ‘Parasite’, but its nonetheless packed with a punch. Following on in a similar vein is a song you may well recognise, ‘Baba O’Riley’. That’s right, its a cover of The Who‘s classic and its the wonderfully poignant power ballad you didn’t know you needed.
The EP then almost flips entirely after that, so much so you’d be forgiven to think it was a whole other artist to be honest. That’s not to say the quality isn’t up there, it just seems a bit out of place compared to the final two songs on the record. Previous single ‘I Want You’ feels like it could have come straight out of a Billie Eilish record, with its ominous electronica hitting you right in the guts from the offset. Equally alluring is our personal fave ‘Parasite’, the perfect alt-pop hit to get your jam on to. You know what we mean…
Throughout there EP there’s no denying the talent that George Barnett evokes. His seductively smooth vocal taking centre stage and holding your attention right to the very last sensual beat.
‘Make It Rain’ is out now.
