Irish singer-songwriter Chris Short returns with the release of his stunning new EP ‘Somewhere’, out now. We were fortunate enough to premiere Chris’ previous single – and EP track – ‘Consumed‘ back in February, and so we’re chuffed to announce that his full body of work is out now and available to stream and download from all your favourite places.

Opening the EP is lead single ‘Higher’; an instantly infectious indie-folk ditty that channels the likes of Vance Joy and James Vincent McMorrow effortlessly. Talking about the single, Chris elaborates, “’Higher’ was formed from my reflection back of the first few months of my relationship with my then neighbour, now wife of 10 years, Dawn. As a songwriter I’ve started writing songs about my experience and the lessons I have learned in the hope that when people hear my music they too can experience the emotion contained in the songs.” There’s also a rather bouncy BFM remix of this single at the end of the EP you should definitely check out for a bit of an unexpected change up to this intricate EP.

Next up is Fortitude Fave and premiere track ‘Consumed’; an upbeat folk-pop song about loss and how it is human nature to dwell. ‘Consumed’ feels surprisingly upbeat. Chris’ warm, rich vocal soars wonderfully over pulsating drums beats and infectious guitar strums, creating an almost cinematic sound as a result.

The pace then slows down a fraction with Chris’ poignant track ‘Flint & Steel’, which feature SJ Talbot on guest vocals and its simple marvellous. The duo’s gorgeous vocals compliment each other perfectly making us think this should really be a regular collaboration to be honest. Chris, can you make this happen? If you’re a Lumineers fan this is the song for you.

Closing the EP rather superbly is ‘Somebody’; a track that almost feels it could have been to B-side to ‘Higher’ as it matches the same energy and vibe effortlessly. The single closes the EP on an accurately high note, leaving the listener keen for more (and a cheeky remix of course).

‘Somewhere’ is out now.
